LeRoy Lawrence Long

LeRoy Lawrence Long passed away at Sakura House on Monday December 5, 2016, in his 78th year, surrounded by his loving family.  He will be missed most by his devoted wife Margaret (Howes) whom he was married to for 56 years.  Lovingly remembered and missed by his devoted children Dianne (Michael) Kersten, Lisa (Paul) Louwagie, Vicki (Dennis) Staley, and by his grandsons Nicholas, Jordan, Jamie, Mackenzie, and Cole.

LeRoy is survived by his sisters Carol VanHaverbeke and Peggy Hicks (Mike).  LeRoy was predeceased by his brother Gerald earlier this year, his parents Basil and Elsie (Williams) Long, and brothers-in-law Wilmer VanHaverbeke and Ken Hicks.  LeRoy will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.  LeRoy will be fondly remembered by his lifelong friends and hunting companions Uncle Ron and John Gilmore.  LeRoy’s faithful Labrador Retriever and hunting companion Shadow will be lost without him.

LeRoy was the co-owner of Long’s Lumber in Langton, Ontario for 30 years, which he operated together with his brother until his retirement in 2005.   LeRoy had a variety of changing interests and hobbies throughout his life but his love of the outdoors, hunting, Model 12s, and Long Point were constants.  LeRoy had a special relationship with the Long Point Company and the marsh that spanned more than 50 years – some legal and some a little less.  LeRoy relished the last 25 years working for the Long Point Company as a Punter.  He will be sorely missed by the guests and staff at the Company.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sakura House and the VON for the compassionate care he received in his final weeks.  Special thanks to Sally for sharing her decoys.  In memory of LeRoy, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Sakura House by visiting www.vonsakurahouse.com , or through Wareing Cremation Services.
