Understanding Cremation

Bereavement Professionals have a responsibility to be clear and concise when providing information.  Disclosure is an absolute for the family and the executor in their effort to organize the most appropriate Services for their loved one, or in the case of Preplanning, for themselves.

Cremation does not limit, but in fact increases the options available.

Understanding what a Transfer Service Class 2 provides versus what a funeral home provides is a first step.

A Transfer Service Class 2 – Wareing Cremation Services – does provide an elite cremation container for the body of the deceased for the purposes of cremation, or there is a large selection of caskets where preferred.  We will return the cremated remains in the Urn of your choosing from our selection of urn products.  The Urn itself is worth some contemplation realizing that an Urn is in fact the vessel that holds a person’s remains.

The Urn holding the deceased’s cremated remains may be interred in an existing family burial plot, interred in a cremation plot purchased in a specific section at a cemetery, or in a niche in an  indoor or outdoor cemetery columbarium or mausoleum.  For many people, it is important to have a permanent place accompanied with the hope that some family and friends will visit the grave and that future generations may also.

For others, their personal views lean to Scattering.  Here it is important to underline the do’s and don’ts of the different religions on the topic of cremated remains and scattering cremated remains, and that can be accomplished in a conversation with Wareing Cremation Services.

Scattering cremated remains may be carried out at a designated place on land or water in accordance with provincial laws and local by-laws.  Scattering cremated remains on someone’s private property requires their permission.  Many cemeteries have designated scattering gardens and  provide the opportunity to also purchase a “leaf marker” displayed on site commemorating the deceased.  No matter where this is carried out, the act of scattering should always be done in a most respectful manner of person and property.

Can there be Services or Ceremonies if cremation, including Direct Cremation, is chosen? YES!

Where our involvement ends the family continues, and will decide and organize the Mass or Church Service, Graveside Service, or Celebration of Life themselves (of course we provide contact information to facilitate or lead these decisions).  Depending on the individual circumstances and  personal wishes of the family, those formal services and/or celebrations will usually take place before committal to a final resting place.

A Transfer Service Class 2 cannot provide a place for visitation or a gathering, and we do not embalm (not necessary for cremation); we do not organize “funeral” services, we provide your alternative……Final Arrangements.

The funeral home is licensed with the ability to provide options for prior to or following the cremation that can include visitation with the body present, and the location of the funeral ceremony that might be required or chosen.
