Sonja LaRose

God saw she was getting tired and called Sonja Marie LaRose (nee Purdy) home into His loving arms on Sunday August 27, 2023, with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of 57 years of Raymond. Mother to Serena and Dwayne VanDenBrink, Grandmother of Bailey and Willy deJonge, Shelby and Dennis vanWijk, and Gigi of Christiaan, Rachel, Remko, and Aubrey.
Survived by sisters-in-law Rochelle Boyd, Marlene Thomson, Brenda (Wayne) Pankratz, and her brother Ted (Deb) Purdy. Remembered by her nephews Gerald (Christine) Boyd, Jason Pankratz, Justin (Carly) Pankratz, Jered Pankratz and Donald (Deanna) Thomson, several great nieces and nephews, and four great great nieces.
Predeceased by her parents Martin and Reta Purdy, in-laws Leo and Ivy LaRose, great grandson Baby Bee, brothers-in-law Maxwell Boyd, and Tom Thomson, and niece Lesa Boyd.
Sonja was the secretary at Courtland Public school for over 20 years and loved every minute of it.  Family bonds were made with her fellow co-workers that continued right up until her passing. For a decade she was a dedicated volunteer with the Relay for Life in Tillsonburg, and in 2009 she received a recognition certificate from the Town of Tillsonburg for her volunteer contributions to the community. In 2012 she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubliee Medal for her contributions to Canada. Sonja was a long-standing member of the Goshen Baptist Church family, serving in many different rolls over the years. No matter what Sonja volunteered with she dedicated her time whole heartedly to it. She will be greatly missed.
