Roger Albert Demarest

1947 – 2021
With heavy hearts, the family of Roger Demarest share his passing on Tuesday August 3, 2021, following a brief battle with cancer
Dear husband of Janet for 52 years and beloved ‘Pop’ to his girls and their spouses, Jennifer Demarest and Jason Campbell, Connie and Shawn Weir, and Deanne and Scott Harmer. He will be greatly missed by his wonderful grandchildren: Noah (and Bishop), Hayley and Hank.
Roger is survived by his dear sister Rachelle Lang, and his sisters-in-law Julia Demarest, Judie Demarest (Ron Gillespie), and Pat Varey. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and their families who always meant a lot to Roger. He is also survived by his godchildren Nancy Demarest, Mike Demarest, Linda Kovacs, Tawnya Demarest and Pamela Gauvin.
Roger is predeceased by his father Camille and mother Germaine (Loncke) as well as his in-laws, Ed and Jessie Croxford, his brothers Harry, Alphonse (sister-in-law Julienne), Wilfred, and Ronnie, and his brother-in-law John Lang.
He will be missed by many friends and neighbours, the recipients of lots of treats – pickled eggs, raisin bread, smoked salmon, antipasto and the best beef jerky ever! His faithful companion, Willy, truly enjoyed her daily truck rides to inspect the crops.
Roger’s life was spent on the land – growing tobacco, cash crops, vegetables and giant pumpkins, being awarded with many trophies and ribbons for his work. More recently, he enjoyed his years as farm manager at Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener and working on the home farm again. Roger liked woodworking, ‘tinkering and fixing’, cooking and baking in winter months, family get-togethers and the Toronto Raptors.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fryer, SE nurse Nathaniel, and the Palliative Team at Woodstock Hospital where Roger spent his final two days.
As per Roger’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family interment to follow at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Roger may consider the Drumbo Lions Club “Habitat for Humanity” fund, or the Drumbo Agricultural Society and donations may be made directly or by cheque through Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave, Woodstock, Ontario, N4S 3V8 (519-290-5575) who have been entrusted with final arrangements. So very sorry to hear of Rogers passing and condolences to the entire Demarest family. Roger was always a person who I admired and wish his family well at this time. The Morrows
I have been thinking about Uncle Rog a lot over the past few weeks. What I remember most is his shy grin and him always having something in hand to give you. The last time I saw him he gave me all the vegetables he had just collected to take home. When we were all still working in tobacco he was the one we would call when something broke down. He could figure anything out you put in front of him. He would call out “Hey Shirl” and then proceed to ask about Ian and the kids. He was one in a million and will be greatly missed by many. My sympathies to Aunt Janet the girls and their families.
