Sherrie L. Rastel

Sherrie passed away peacefully on Friday September 18, 2020 at Sakura House in Woodstock with her husband and children in attendance. 

Survived by her loving husband Helmut of 17 years; daughter Lisa, her spouse JJ Gill and grandsons Jace Gill, Kaleb Collins, and Lucas Collins; son Steven; son Kevin, his spouse Chelsea and grandchildren Dani, Dakota, and Riley; stepdaughters Julie and her spouse Cameron Duncalf; Melanie, her spouse Dean Mader and granddaughter Neveah; and stepson Jeff Rastel. Lovingly supported by stepmother Marilyn Walker and John Walker throughout Sherrie’s formative years. Remembered by her brother Dr. Mark Walker (Chiropractor) who resides in Texas; stepbrother David Bolton (Robin), stepsisters Kathleen McLachlan (Peter), Sandra Smith (Murray), Stephanie Stevens (Paul), and their children.

Predeceased by parents Audrey Bolton (2011), stepfather Neil Bolton (2013) and father John G. Walker (2019).

Sherrie attended Mohawk College and graduated in 1975 as a Registered Nurse. She worked in Obstetrics and the Operating Room for ten years. Community Nursing piqued her interest with special attention to Palliative Care and Symptom Management. The Victorian Order of Nurses is where she was able to work 1-1 with ill and recovering patients and their families. She attended McMaster University and graduated with a BScN in 1995. In her off hours she attended Conestoga College in the evenings and obtained the Teacher/Trainer Certificate in Adult Programs in 2001. Sherrie took further Management courses and moved across into LTC in Brant-Haldimand-Norfolk Counties as a Unit Manager in several Nursing Homes. The final ten years of her career involved being a Case Manager for the CCAC in Elgin County.

In keeping with Sherrie’s wishes cremation has taken place. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Parkinson’s Society Southwestern Ontario, London Regional Cancer Centre, or VON Sakura House. Memorial donations may be made directly, or by cheque through Wareing Cremation Services, 346 Simcoe Street, Tillsonburg (519-409-5575) entrusted with arrangements.Remembrances and condolences may be shared at www.wareingcremation.ca
