Marie Olive Sims

September 22, 1924 – June 4, 2023

Our Mom passed away in her 99th year at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Woodstock, Ontario.  She has gone to join her beloved husband, Bob (October 29, 2018) in everlasting life.

Marie was the daughter of Walter and Colette Toeppner, born on her father’s birthday in Powassan, Ontario in 1924.  In the 1940’s, Mom moved to Hespeler to work in a textile factory where she became smitten with a tall, handsome, ginger-haired man who caught her eye so she decided to throw an orange at him to get his attention and that was the beginning of 70 wonderful years together.  Bob and Marie had 3 children – Barry (Donna), Bonnie (Mike), and Nancy (Darryl).

Marie leaves behind her 2 sisters, Yvonne and Bette and was predeceased by her brother Paul.  Marie was a devoted grandmother to 9 grandchildren- Marni (Will), Rob (Nancy), Michael, Stephen (Kyla), Jeff (Bailey), David (Shanicka), Nick (Becca), Thom (Jen), and Avery (Lee).  She had 8 great-grandsons – Owyn, Wesley, Aiden, Ashton, Keanan, Emerson, Holden and Edison.

Marie’s church family was very important to her and she was active in the Anglican Church Women’s group, helping with church bazaars and taking part in fundraising activities. The Church of Epiphany Outreach Group has kept in touch with Mom for the past several years by visiting her and sending cards to her on a regular basis. We are very grateful to them for remembering our Mom.

Our Mom was a lovely lady.  She was humorous, kind, smart and loved by her family and friends.  She overcame many health challenges during her long life.  Her strength was immeasurable.

The staff at Caressant Care treated Mom like a queen.  They kept her safe and comfortable.  She was well liked and we wish to thank all of the Nurses, Doctors, PSW’s, and staff for their kindness towards our Mom.

A celebration of life will be held when her loved ones can come from afar to share their stories of love to celebrate this beautiful woman.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mom’s memory would be appreciated.  Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave., Woodstock has been entrusted with Final Arrangements.  Your condolences and messages of remembrance may be shared here at wareingcremation.ca

  • My thoughts are with all of you. Your Dad worked with my Dad at the OPP and we also got to know your Mom quite well too. Your Dad just wasn’t someone that worked with my Dad – your entire family was such good friends with all my family and we kept in touch for many years.
Your Mom and Dad were truly one of my favourite couples – I so loved talking to each of them. Their marriage was full of so much love and joy – you must have so many wonderful memories. Now your Mom is with your Dad for their next journey.
    Much love

  • I remember her smile from many years ago working with my Mom at Carter’s Pharmacy in Listowel. That wonderful smile was still present in recent photos. She always had something nice to say and my parents quite often referred to her as the life of the party!
