John Michael Lund

John passed away peacefully at University Hospital, London, Ontario with his wife and son by his side on October 28, 2020, following complications from pneumonia.

Loving companion and husband of 45 years (36 married) to his wife Deb. Devoted Father and Father in law to Andrew and Nicole Lund and very proud Grandpa to his little grandson Bear. Dear brother to his heartbroken sister Stella (Terry) Chattington. Dear brother in law to Steve Manning, Dave (Joan) Manning and John (Connie) Manning. Loving Uncle to Jennifer (Cameron) Christie, Leigh Chattington, Angela (Paul) Hammond, Jason (Roshika) Manning, Troy Manning, Kayla Manning, Connor Devries, Briar (Matt) Dean, Dillon (Amanda) Devries, Scott (Ashley) Manning and Bailey Manning. Great Uncle to Ayla, Alex and Claire Hammond, Victoria Manning, Hunter Christie and Finn, Aurora and Summer Dean. Predeceased by his parents John and Evelyn Lund, Mother and Father in law Sally and Keith Manning, sisters Karetta (Bill) Watters and Helen Lund as well as Sister in law Susan Manning.

John will be sorely missed by his furry companions Meatball, Blackie, Gus and Hank.

John was a very proud former dealer of Canadian Tire Stores in Exeter, Ingersoll and Woodstock Ontario. He was happiest working hard alongside his employees and considered them to be more co-workers and friends than staff members. He built some wonderful friendships over the years, especially with Ray Curry and Rodger Pullen.

John was the most stubborn, bull-headed, irritating, hard working guy who did everything at warp speed. Never a dull moment! But he was also the most compassionate, loving, fair, generous, fierce friend, father and husband you could wish for.

Our world is going to be a much slower and quieter place without him.

At John’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Instead, please think of John with a glass (or 3) of wine (preferably red), enjoy a thick juicy medium-rare steak, and eat as many Nanaimo bars as you can! If you love someone tell them now and every day how much, because life can change in a moment.

Donations in John’s memory to Canadian Tire Jumpstart or charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made directly or by cheque through Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave., Woodstock, Ont. N4S 3V8, entrusted with arrangements.   Your messages of condolence may be shared at www.wareingcremation.ca

Rosemary and I want to express our deepest sympathy and Condolences to you.
In our Canadian Tire Dealer Family, we have always though of and respected John and yourself as great people. As a Dealer, John always was a humble and very knowledgeable and hard working business man. We would often visit your store to gleen good ideas from you both and were never disappointed. I always enjoyed doing Changeovers with John and could count on his CT acumen and personal integrity.
We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers….and drink a glass of wine in his memory.
    Sincerely
    Wil and Rosemary Vander Linden

  • Dear Deb, Andrew and Family, I am sending sincere condolences for the Loss of John. I know he will be missed, He was a fine man even if him and I came to verbal blows a few times, I respected him and had many laughs too. I am at a loss for words to express how I am feeling. I will hold his memory in my Heart, Love to all from Shane and myself. Wish I was there to give you a hug Deb. I miss you constantly. Every time I look at the plants in the area stores, I think to myself, Deb would fire these people for such neglect !! Be well my friend, take care and be safe in this crazy time in our world,

  • At 16 i was hired as a part timer in hardware at the Sarnia Exmouth location. I’m not sure when exactly i was introduced to John but the description you give of John is exactly how i remember him. I especially remember when CTC moved to the Lambton Mall, John was a work horse, we worked for several weeks late into the evening to prepare the new store for opening…i thought it was great, getting paid and dining on KFC, John would have ordered for the crew. I so sorry for your loss.

  • Dear Debbie & family:
Vic & I are were very shocked to hear that John had passed away. Your obituary was lovely & a tribute to a great man.
Vic of course has lots of fond memories of many years ago hanging around in Johns garage with the guys or going hunting on Manatoulin Island. If it wasn’t for John living next door to me on Savoy Street I probably would have never met Vic. I remember when John first met you & how he kept his privacy before telling anyone. Even though he never showed it publicly he was very kind to JJ & Stacey when they were young. I can well imagine he would be very proud of his son & delighted to have a grandson too.
Your obituary was lovely & shows what a great husband & father he was.
Our thoughts & prayers are with you Debbie at this very difficult time for all of you,

    Vic & Shirley Horvath
