Elizabeth Leffers

Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep at peopleCare Tavistock, on February 20, 2021, in her 98th year. Loving wife of Jorgen Leffers, having recently marked their 66th wedding anniversary. Dear mother of Margaret Leffers (Chris Wilson) of Woodstock and Erin Leffers (Fred MacKinnon) of Kirkland Lake. Proud grandmother of Neil and Angela (John). Predeceased by her parents Robert and Margaret (Mortimer) Wilson, her sister Doreen Colwell and brother-in-law Roy Colwell.
Betty grew up in southeastern Alberta and enjoyed life on the farm. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, which was quite an accomplishment in the 1940s, and soon after moved to Ontario joining the Victorian Order of Nurses in North York. She loved her family unconditionally and was generous with her time, supporting her family as well as various charities and other organizations. She was a “good sport,” travelling to Denmark ahead of Jorgen with a 2½ year old, becoming a Girl Guide leader, learning to cross-country and downhill ski as an adult, sailing with Jorgen (even as a non-swimmer/“prairie girl”), and growing Christmas trees and apples near Thornbury. She had a long and full life despite a number of health challenges along the way.
Per Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral or memorial service will be held. If desired, memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Many thanks to the staff at peopleCare Tavistock for their care and compassion during the past year and a half. Knowing Betty was in such caring hands during these challenging times has been a great comfort to our family.
