May 10, 1922 - October 1, 2016
Hazel (Cogswell) Thomas (nee Matthews)
Hazel passed away peacefully on Saturday October 1, 2016 in her 95th year.
Born in Bedfordshire, England in 1922, Hazel met and married Canadian Warrant Officer Max A. Cogswell in 1946, and sailed to Canada as a war bride. In a house built at 343 Greenhead Road, Saint John, New Brunswick, she raised her four children: David Cogswell of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, William Cogswell (Sharon) of Hampton, New Brunswick, Lynn Clark (Mark Doucet) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Lisa Wright (Philip) of Woodstock, Ontario.
Max Cogswell passed away in 1970. Hazel married Martin Thomas in 1978. When Martin passed away in 2000 Hazel moved to Woodstock, Ontario to live with her daughter Lisa and family. From 2008, she resided at Woodingford Lodge Long Term Care Home until her death.
Hazel will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren: Shannon, Shelley, Christopher, Nicholas, Robyn, and Rebecca and their spouses, and her six great grandchildren: Julia, Ewan, Ivy, Hayes, Violet and Olive. Hazel was predeceased by three sisters and a brother and is survived by her youngest sister Betty Neville and her husband Ted in England.
Hazel often quoted this by Robert Browning,
“Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, the last of life, for which the first was made. Our times are in His hand who saith, “A whole I planned, youth shows but half; Trust God: See all, nor be afraid!”
